Impressions Of Hanoi 3e5

Impressions Of Hanoi
XtremeSix:
Our first impression of Hanoi when we looked down from the descending SQ176 was the total opposite of what we were expecting to see. What we saw were grassy green plains which were plantations. We were expecting a urban area with lots of tall buildings as Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, instead we saw a lot of plantations.
In the city area, all we saw were a sea of bikes and scooters, with a few cars being caught up in that sea of bikes occasionally. The traffic there was a barely organized chaos. Only a small number of traffic lights were in place to regulate the traffic flow, and honks were heard one after another, with around a second between each of them. Perhaps the reason for the sheer number of bikes and the lack of traffic lights were due to financial restraints, as bikes are cheaper than cars.
We soon had to ride some trishaws around the Ancient Quarters. We were soon among the honking and swirling traffic, and the surprising fact is that none of us were hurt in the trip. It was later explained to us that all the traffic was not as chaotic as we first thought. As the Vietnam population is generally polite, they usually give way when driving and drive slow, which reduces the accident rate.
